Nocturne for a Mad Scientist (Bb Bass Clarinet)

The piece opens with a manic, driving chalumeau ostinato before launching into a series of jagged, chromatic leaps. Performers will test their expressive limits, transitioning abruptly from frantic staccato runs to an eerily sustained, unsettling lyrical middle section. Building with nervous energy, the music explodes into a soaring clarion and into a feverish, "mad scientist" conclusion. Perfect for collegiate recitals or advanced festival performances (such as CMEA), this unaccompanied work demands rhythmic precision, robust air support, and a serious flair.
